1. Parshuram Temple

Parshuram Temple is an ancient temple and is one of the best things to do in Chiplun. It is located 7 kilometres from Chiplun Bus Station and is located in Parshuram Village near Chiplun. The temple is dedicated to Lord Parshurama, the 6th Avatar of Vishnu.


The temple was built by the initiative of Swami Paramhans Bramendra. He was the guru of Siddi Yakutkhan of Janjira, Kanhoji Angre of Kolaba, Peshwa of Pune, and Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj.


According to a legend, Parashurama fought 21 battles to get rid of unjust Kshatriya kings. He then donated the entire earth to Maharshi Kashyap, hence he could not reside in any land. Thus he shot an arrow towards the Arabian sea to push it back. The land given up by the sea is known as Konkan. He chose Mahendragiri hill as his permanent abode. This is where the temple is located.


The temple incorporates both Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture, The main temple is surrounded by stone walls. The main sanctum has three idols of Kal, Kam and Parshuram.

The fort is surrounded by water from three sides and the Govalkat harbour is just nearby. It is one of the best things to do in Chiplun. The Karanjeshwari Temple is located at the base of the fort.

The fort is situated at a height of 60 metres and you can reach the fort by climbing the stairs situated near the Karanjeshwari Temple. One can get a mesmerizing view of the blue river water.

The beautiful Shivasrushti of Dervan has been created 2 kilometres from the Savarde Village. It depends on the life of the greatest Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is engraved on the walls of Shivasamartha fort.

The temple is dedicated to Vindhyavasini, who was the daughter of Nanda and Yashodha. The legend states that she went to Vasudev and Devaki who were being held captive by Kansa. She slipped from Kansa’s hand when he was about to kill her, and went to the Vindhya ranges.


The temple is said to be established in the Yadav era and is in place since Ancient times. The temple has been attacked by foreign invaders. It was rebuilt by the king Sambhaji and the goddess is being worshipped since then.


The idol is said to be 800 - 1000 years old and is in the aggressive form of Mahishasur Mardini. The temple also has an idol of Kartikeya, who is sitting on a peacock. It is one of the best things to do in Chiplun.
